Residential Design
June 2024
With sweeping views to The Heads, the Balmoral House site came with challenges and opportunities. The narrow driveway complicated access but created a dramatic entry, while off-form concrete columns and planter boxes pushed construction limits.
Architects Potter & Wilson retained elements from the original 1980s home—adding a sustainable layer—while reorganising the layout into a minimal yet warm space. A double-height living area and full-height shelving connect all floors. The home includes four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a self-contained apartment.
Key trades like Marty & Co and Sterland Roofing brought the refined design to life, underpinned by a strong client-builder relationship.
Screened House connects courtyards and gardens with recycled materials, solar power, and flexible indoor-outdoor living.
For Gully House, Klyne Construction worked with Andrew Burges Architects from the early stages to align the budget with the creative vision.
